About

Ever since I remember, motion pictures and movie-making have always enamoured me. And, when the time came, to choose a career for myself, I chose the movies. But, naturally…film-making excites me! And I deftly use my craft to enthral movie-goers with the mesmerising charm of visual storytelling.

Hey there! I’m Sheetal Duggal, a Production Designer and Art Director based out of Mumbai.

I first embarked upon my journey of telling stories through visuals, when I graduated from the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. Then, in 2004, I forayed into Bollywood and discovered the fascinating world of Art Direction.

My first stint didn’t fetch me any earnings. Nonetheless, I learnt a great deal on the job. But I had to support myself financially! So, I took up independent projects as an Event Set Designer. That’s where my skill in perspective design was put to the test and I took to event set design like a fish to water. But while I designed larger-than-life sets for events of the likes of Miss India and Gladrags pageants, Indian Television Academy Awards, the Indian Telly Awards, and even big-fat Indian destination weddings, I knew in my heart of hearts that it was the movies that truly beckoned me! Around the same time, I was offered a small-budget film, “Thanks Maa'', as a Production Designer. It didn’t take much convincing…I simply plunged right in! And, I’m glad I did, because that’s when the films started coming in. First Stanley ka Dabba by the acclaimed Indian screenwriter, actor and director, Amole Gupte, and subsequently the gripping crime thriller, Talaash, as an Art Director for the renowned Production Designer, Sharmishta Roy. Since then, there’s been absolutely no looking back!

It’s been a journey of 15 years. My style has evolved over the years, movies I’ve worked on have sometimes not seen the light of day. But through all this, I’ve tried to remain true to my craft and style…earthy and realistic, and always backed by strong research.

“delightful & surreal"

Film sets are constantly amusing because you really are creating something that is so delightful & surreal, and I kind of like that!
